Areas of Need
Every donation drives transformative progress at Gaylord. Private philanthropy allows us to further our mission of innovation and excellence to continually implement new therapies and care. You can join Gaylord’s mission by supporting one of the following areas of critical need:
The Gaylord Fund
The Gaylord Fund is an unrestricted pool of resources that supports the greatest needs of the organization throughout the year. Typically, gifts to The Gaylord Fund have supported continuing medical education for clinical team members, staff resiliency training and education, wellness initiatives to combat burnout, and new equipment for patient care. Unrestricted gifts are critical to Gaylord, providing flexibility to respond to immediate needs at the hospital, furthering our mission to enhance health, maximize function and transform lives.
Campus Revitalization
At Gaylord, our goal is to provide safe, efficient and effective patient-centered care. We prioritize the important role of the patient and family experience in delivering high-quality outcomes and safety, whether they are in the hospital or being treated at one of our outpatient facilities.
Our ability to lead diverse clinical teams presents an opportunity for Gaylord to establish the standard, nationally, for the patient and family experience. Securing funding to positively strengthen our patient and family experience ensures a compassionate and personalized environment during each recovery journey.
From gardens reimagined to modernized private patient rooms, Gaylord’s expansive campus requires upgraded infrastructure, additional patient funds for special requests, and hard costs associated with project construction.
In 2023, Gaylord completed two pivotal campus revitalization projects.
The first is the renovation of the Rutledge Family Garden, an outdoor space immediately adjacent to the main inpatient gymnasium. The new space is now used daily as an extension of the gym for patient therapy, as well as a space for relaxation, rest and reflection.
The second is the transformation of the ground level of the Jackson Pavilion into Gaylord’s new Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation. The Institute brings together all clinical education, training and professional development for clinicians at Gaylord, as well as new space for CT’s first PM&R Residency program in partnership with UConn School of Medicine and Hartford Healthcare.
In 2024, donations to Campus Revitalization at Gaylord will support the completion of the renovation of the Lyman and Hooker patient units, including 99 private patient rooms and 4 nurses’ stations. The project, originally started pre-COVID, has been delayed by more than a year due to impacts of the pandemic, rising costs and supply chain disruptions.
Technology
It is critical for Gaylord to offer the latest technologies to our patients so that they can benefit from the newest treatment options and achieve the best outcomes. Being able to invest in innovative equipment and treatment methods — from virtual reality and robotics to voice recognition software and telemedicine — ensures that our patients receive the most current treatment resulting in maximum functional recovery.
Gaylord cares for patients with head injury, stroke, and spinal cord injuries who receive treatment from a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, therapists and nurses. Our clinicians regularly use technologies that assess and enhance a patient’s motor and cognitive function.
We seek to engage product developers, corporations, foundations, and others interested in supporting our mission to make healthier tomorrows possible, to create a community committed to the advancement and modernization of the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
By partnering with us to discover innovative solutions and support the programs that enhance and improve patient care across our region, you are helping Gaylord Think Possible for every patient who comes through our doors.
Traurig House Scholarships
The Louis D. Traurig Transitional Living Center is Connecticut’s only residential day treatment program for patients with acquired brain injury. Traurig House bridges the gap between hospital and home for patients who need therapy to relearn everyday skills. In the majority of cases, Traurig House stays are not covered by insurance. Donations to the Traurig House Scholarship Fund provide access to much-needed therapy for patients who are uninsured or underinsured.
Sports Association
The Gaylord Sports Association is dedicated to helping people with a physical disability experience the benefits of adaptive sports and recreation. Gaylord offers the most diverse adaptive sports program in New England, with 16 different sports that range from introductory clinics to competitive sports teams.
Our dedicated Sports Association team, comprised of staff and volunteers, provides instruction, equipment and activity modification with an individualized approach to maximize the independence of each participant.
